Diabetes Herbs

Diabetes is a group of diseases characterized by high blood glucose levels caused by defects in insulin production, insulin inaction or both. According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes effects approximately 24 million or 8% of the US population but the prevelance grew at an alarming rate of 13% from 2005 to 2007. Diabetes is less prevalent in young people but as they age their chance of developing it increases greatly. 23% of people 65 or older develop Diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes with high risk for developing the disease. 5.7M American have undiagnosed Diabetes and are unaware that it is affecting their health.

Many people learn they have diabetes after developing one of its complications. Diabetes complications cause heart disease and stroke and they kill 65% of people with diabetes. Other common complications include high blood pressure (73%), blindness, kidney disease, nervous system malfunctions (60% to70% have damage), amputations, dental disease and sexual dysfunction.

In Chinese medicine Diabetes is considered a depletion-thirst disease which results in symptoms that include excessive thirst, hunger, and urination and cause extreme thinness. Diabetes is believed to disturb the body's moisture balance which damages the liver, spleen and kidneys through heat accumulation and loss of organ energy flows. Diabetes is manifested differently among individuals depending on whether the upper (lungs)), middle (stomach) or lower (kidneys) organs are most affected. When upper organs are effected the goal of treatment is to purge fire and increase body fluids to relieve thirst. When middle organs are affected treatment is designed to decrease stomach heat and nourish Yin. When lower organs are affected it is considered a Yin deficiency and Yin Tonics are prescribed for the short and long term.

Yan Vive Tablets / Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan
Rhemannia Root Formula
  Information Resources

Yan Vive is based on the Chinese formula Jin Gui Shen Q. It is also known as Ba Wei Di Huang Wan (BDW), Rhemannia Eight and Hachimi-jio-gan (HJ) in Japanese. Yan Vive is an important supplement for those over 40 and many older people in Asia use it to improve mental function, increase stamina, ease fatigue, improve blood circulation, reduce cold sensations and improve muscle weakness. Japanese research at the Tohoku University School of Medicine indicates Yan Vive supports mental functioning and dementia without side effects. Another Japanese study suggested that it enhances the choline acetyltransferase activity and increases the acetylcholine content of the frontal cortex

In Chinese Medicine Yan Vive is used to restore the kidneys Yang (function). In TCM the kidneys are the master organ which support all other organs to balance Yin, Yang, Qi etc. so healthy kidney structure is paramount to health. Chinese research indicates Yan Vive promotes healthy kidney functioning, hormone regulation, T-lymphocyte production, cytokine regulation and healthy immune systems. Other benefits include increased sex and adrenal cortical hormone production, reduced blood glucose levels (Diabetes support), and increased superoxide dismtase activity (SOD).

You Gui Tablets / Rehmannia Root Formula   Information Resources

You Gui Wan, Pian or Yin is a 400 year old formula used to treat impotence and male infertility. Chinese Medicine views most impotence as deficiencies of Kidney Yang which is considered the male (positive) principle of Yin-Yang, while Yin is the womanish (negative) principle. Since the Kidneys are at the core foundation of all organs with respect to Yin, Yang and Qi — You Gui Wan helps to replenish vital Kidney Yang essence and enrich the blood to relieve impotence. You Gui Wan is appropriate for people whose symptoms include cold legs.

The therapeutic actions of You Gui Wan remain unclear, similar to many botancial compounds and synthetic drugs. Chinese research suggests that it may increase male testosterone production and cytokines such as gamma-interferon which is believed to support healthy immune function. One study suggested it increases low sperm counts and in 45%-83% patients fertility was returned after taking You Gui Wan for 2-4 months. In another study You Gui Wan was reported to be effective in improving Osterporosis symptoms in 96.2% patients after 6-8 months of use.

You Gui Wan is similar to YounGain, and YanVive because they all nourish Kidney Yang but vary in strength. YounGain is strongest, followed by You Gui Wan with YanVive being mildest. Zuo Gui Wan another Rhemannia formula nourishes Kidney Yin and is appropriate when symptoms include low-grade fever or sweating,

Yin Vive Capsules / Rehmannia Root Formula   Information Resources

Rehmannia Root is a major component of Yin Vive which is based on the Chinese formula Liu Wei Di Huang invented centuries ago. This compound invigorates Kidney Yin (kidney structure) to moisten and balance the kidneys and support nutrient storage. Balanced Kidney Yin produces synergistic health benefits such as improved psychological health, increased energy and stamina, improved digestion and better functioning of other body organs. Yin support is important for men and women over 40 because aging is commonly associated with loss of kidney function. Before middle age most men are Yang dominant but become Yin dominant later in life. Yin Vive is a mild tonic which acts slowly and has been taken by millions with rare side effects.

Yin Vive improves kidney structure and function, hormone and cytokine regulation, T-lymphocyte production and healthy immune systems. It helps to increase sex and adrenal cortical hormones which animal studies indicate have anti-inflammatory effects. Chinese research indicates YIn Vive improves sexual performance, menopause symptoms, thyroid function, Diabetes Type II, and back pain cause by the kidneys. Yan Vive is a similar formula but it is more effective when symptoms include cold legs and a pale face.

Ginkgo Biloba / Standardized Extract   Information Resources

Ginkgo Biloba is widely used in the US and Europe (a best selling prescription drug) to support mental impairments and vascular diseases. A 1997 U.S. study by LeBars et al. reported on the effectiveness of using 120 MG of ginkgo extract on patients with Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia. Results concluded that Ginkgo stabilizes and in many cases improves cognitive and social functioning in demented patients and delays disease progression for six months without significant side effects. The methods and results of this study have been heavily disputed but, a German study using 240 MG dosing also concluded patients dementia improved significantly after 3 months with no significant side effects.

Other studies report Ginkgo Biloba provides patients other health benefits including enhanced mental alertness for healthy people, reduced pain for people with peripheral vascular disease, ear ringing reductions and altitude sickness support. Millions have taken standardized Ginkgo Biloba extract with rare side effects reported.
